Overview

This product is currently installed within the California Department of Corrections. The Off-Hook/Dial/Cut Cord Alarm System is designed to support all of the functionality of the current system, while providing a more user-friendly interface and robust feature set.

The purpose of the PBX Alarm System is to detect certain classes of alarms and notify a central point of the alarm condition. The types of alarms that the system detects are as follows:

  • Telephone Offhook without being dialed
  • Unplugging or severing the cord from a digital telephone set
  • Dialed alarms (222 and 333)

When one of these conditions is detected, the PBX Alarm System generates a visual and audible alarm on a Personal Computer (PC) located at Central Control. The responding individual is then required to press a key to silence the alarm and must enter their initials to clear the alarm from the screen. All alarm activity is recorded within a log file on the PC and sent to a local line printer. The PBX Alarm System is developed specifically to integrate with the Nortel Meridian 1 Telephone System and utilizes several features within the telephone system to provide the required operations.

The following diagram shows the architecture of the PBX Alarm System.
